The State Duma unanimously supported the adoption of the statement on the Escalation of United States Policy Toward the Republic of Cuba.
The document notes the continued economic and financial restrictions imposed by the United States on the Republic of Cuba “constitute interference into the affairs of the Sovereign State, serving as an example of conducting interstate relations based on unilateral coercive measures, and run counter to the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations”.
“These coercive actions of the United States are aimed at exerting economic and military pressure on the Cuban leadership in an effort to secure political concessions and influence the country’s internal political development with the purpose of establishing subsequent control over it,” says the document.
The members of the State Duma reaffirm their solidarity with the people of Cuba, the leadership of the friendly nation, and their colleagues in the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and express support for Cuba’s efforts to “safeguard its independence and its sovereign right to determine its own path of development”.
“The deputies of the State Duma call for the immediate cessation of all forms of political and economic pressure on the Republic of Cuba and urge an end to the American practices based on coercion and threats in international relations,” the document says.
The members of the State Duma also call upon the United Nations, international parliamentary organizations, and national parliaments around the world to condemn the United States policies toward Cuba.
“Speaking about the United States America, we should say that it should have left Cuba alone long ago, as all the created troubles bring nothing good. It should be taken into account that sovereign states independently choose their way of development and their citizens choose their future themselves,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin

He stressed that despite the fact that there were representatives of different political factions, all the members of the State Duma supported the adoption of the statement. “We consider interference in the internal affairs of the sovereign state inadmissible, as well as the aggression against the state which fought for sovereignty,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
Speaking about the constant sanctions pressure, the Chairman of the State Duma recalled Russia’s situation living in the conditions of restrictions: there have been introduced more than 31 thousand restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. “In addition, for our part, we urge to lift sanctions imposed on Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Iran. We see some obstacles created for China. All these measures are aimed to halt the development. Such policy is wrong. And, as a rule, only weak, unconfident people act like that,” he said.
