The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Ahmed
Mohamed Abdelatty.
Issues related to development of Russia-Egypt inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted Egypt’s role as one of Russia’s key partners in the Middle East and Africa. “Both Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have done a lot to build such relations. They set the momentum for cooperation. We should do our best to follow their example at the inter-parliamentary level, find new formats of cooperation to make our own contribution to development of relations between our states within the parliamentary dimension,” he stressed and noted the role of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in this matter.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the State Duma also drew attention to importance of enhancing cooperation with the Egyptian colleagues. According to him, one of the formats of successful interaction at the parliamentary level which has proved its effectiveness is the activity of joint inter-parliamentary commissions. Vyacheslav Volodin suggested intensifying such activity. The possibility of signing an Agreement on Cooperation between the State Duma and the House of Representatives of Egypt had been discussed at the meeting with former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt Hanafy El Gebaly.
“We hope that our discussion will bring new ideas and decisions and it will be a real step towards new level of cooperation between our states,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
Badr Abdelatty conveyed to the Chairman and members of the State Duma warm words of greetings from their Egyptian colleagues. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic supported the idea of enhancing and strengthening inter-parliamentary ties between the two states and noted that Egypt always has warm feelings toward Russia and its assistance that the country has provided to the Republic, including in the Soviet period.
“It will forever remain hearts of people of Egypt. It comes from the heart. We intend to develop our relations sustainably by taking into account mutual interest, especially, due to the fact that we have a political will of presidents Vladimir Putin and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,” he emphasized.
Vyacheslav Volodin asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt to convey an invitation to pay an official visit to Russia to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic Hisham Badawy.
The meeting participants also discussed issues of providing legislative assistance to the trade and economic cooperation and development of tourism cooperation.
