Vyacheslav Volodin: we should do everything possible to protect our people

Chairman of the State Duma instructed relevant committees to develop proposals aimed at protecting compatriots from discrimination in the Baltic States

The protection of compatriots' rights was a key issue of discussion at the recent plenary session, because the Latvian authorities plan to deport 841 people who failed to prove their knowledge of Latvian language and failed mandatory security checks. These individuals have Russian passports, and most of them are of retirement age.

The Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
called the Baltic States “puppets of the West.” “There is no other way to call the current authorities in the European Union, only a prison of nations. It is a fascist regime. The fundamental rights of citizens are being trampled in Europe,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma. “Macron, Merz, and others like them, along with Zelensky— this regime’s stub —are ready to take to extremes to preserve their power and themselves personally,” he added.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted that people of retirement age, those who “once came there as part of the allocation programs but continued to speak Russian as their native language”, they have been persecuted in Latvia. “Those who refuse to trade favor with local bandits, they cannot be called any other words, and accept citizenship of another country are suffering humiliation and persecution. Colleagues, we must definitely do everything possible to protect our people,” he told the parliamentarians.

According to the Chairman of the State Duma, ignoring this situation is nothing less than pandering to fascism. In the last century, Europe also remained silent when Hitler came to power in Germany, he recalled. “As a result, a huge tragedy was witnessed in every European country, practically the entire world. Today, in the Baltic States, especially Latvia, we see almost the same situation and realize the possible results,” Vyacheslav Volodin added.

He noted the importance of preventing a recurrence of those tragic events. “Colleagues, we should prepare the necessary proposals by Thursday. For our part, within the parliamentary dimension, we will do everything possible to urge both the parliaments of other countries and politicians who still have a conscience to take action. There are various parties there,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma instructed the relevant committees to prepare a statement regarding protection of compatriots from discrimination in the Baltic States. He added that these proposals must be concrete and “cool the crazy heads made such decisions.”

“The country must take measures”

“Needless to say, the so-called global community, which our elites have admired and listened to for 30 years, will not react. And they absolutely do not care about this,” emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Petr Tolstoy Tolstoy Petr Olegovich Tolstoy

He called for turning words into action and taking concrete measures to protect compatriots in foreign states. “I am convinced that our statement, which we will discuss on Thursday, should be the first step in a chain of actions. The country must take measures,” stressed Petr Tolstoy.

Leonid Ivanovich
, the Chairman of the Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countryman, noted that he had repeatedly raised the issue of discrimination against Russian-speaking people in the Baltic States at various international forums. “We have already seen this reaction: it was like a wall in the West,” he added. “We can, of course, express our outrage, and we can once again discuss the position of international organizations. We will make a statement. I recall Lenin's words: 'The smaller the dwarf, the longer the shadow.' And this is a sign of decline,” emphasized Leonid Kalashnikov.

“The current situation in Latvia, unfortunately, fits into the negative dynamics of the last three and a half decades of Soviet rule. The term 'non-citizens' does not exist anywhere in international law, but only in the legislation of Latvia and Estonia,” noted Leonid Slutsky Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

According to him, Russia will welcome and offer habitation and work to anyone the Latvian authorities decide to deport. “Our great country will welcome everyone with dignity, because they are part of the Russian world. Today, there is a new global majority, which has already formed around the ideas and approaches of the President of Russia for a multipolar world architecture, will support us and will not support the Latvian authorities promoting the fascist discrimination against the Russian-speaking population,” added Leonid Slutsky.

According to Konstantin Zatulin Zatulin Konstantin Fedorovich Zatulin
Konstantin Fedorovich
, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countryman, 41,000 citizens of the Russian Federation currently live in Latvia, and “they are all under the Sword of Damocles.”

The parliamentarian also added that when applying for documents in Latvia, compatriots are required to fill out a “loyalty card” containing highly provocative questions. “Let me read out a couple of questions from this card, which is now mandatory not only for them but even for transit passengers going through Latvia: 'Do you think that Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and illegally incorporated it into Russia?' If you do not say that Russia is conducting unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine, you will not be let enter or pass through Latvia,” stressed Konstantin Zatulin.
