The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and members of the State Duma paid tribute to the memory
of the leader of Vietnamese national liberation movement Ho Chi Minh and all
those who sacrificed their lives for independence of Vietnam.
The Russian delegation, led by Vyacheslav Volodin, laid a wreath at the mausoleum which is the resting place of the first President of Vietnam. The mausoleum was designed and built with the assistance of Soviet specialists.
At the entrance to the mausoleum, there is a famous quote of the Vietnamese leader: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” which is engraved on a marble slab.
The Chairman of the State Duma and members of the State Duma also laid a wreath at the Fallen Heroes Monument. The memorial was unveiled on May 7, 1994, the day of the 40th anniversary of the Vietnamese people's victory in the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ. This event played a crucial role in the First Indochina War: in July 1954, the Geneva Accords were signed and put an end to French colonial rule in the region.
The Chairman of the State Duma is paying an official visit to Vietnam. The fourth meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic will be held in Hanoi. As earlier noted Vyacheslav Volodin, the agenda includes issues of development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and investment climate, strengthening energy ties and role of parliaments in building a just safe world, monitoring scientific and technological legislation, enhancing educational, cultural and tourism cooperation.
