The meeting participants discussed issues of the further development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue between Russia and the DPRK and new formats of interaction.
The Chairman of the State Duma expressed gratitude to the Korean side for the opportunity to meet and participate in the ceremonial events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule. “Our countries have long-standing relations. This is our common holiday. 80 years ago, the Red Army and Korean patriots shoulder to shoulder did everything to liberate the country from the Japanese invaders,” he emphasized.
“We do not forget and remember with respect the feat and merits of Soviet soldiers who, with the noble calling of internationalism, together with Korean revolutionary fighters, fought in the battles to liberate our Motherland, sacrificed their blood and precious lives,” said Choe Ryong-hae.
According to the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, the visit of the Chairman of the State Duma will be an important moment in strengthening the exchange and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted the high level of bilateral relations reached by the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Kim Jong-un.
Vyacheslav Volodin recalled that the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was signed in 2024. “It is important for us to do everything at the legislative level to effectively implement the agreements of the heads of states,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to develop new formats of interaction to strengthen cooperation within the parliamentary dimension. “I would like to propose considering the possibility, if you support it, of creating a high-level commission between our parliaments so that we will be able to further develop relations and consider issues on our agenda,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the State Duma expressed special words of gratitude to the leadership of the Republic and the Korean people for their assistance in the liberation of the Kursk region. “Your soldiers came to help us and sacrificed their lives to liberate the Kursk region. This is a real feat. We will never forget this,” he said.
Vyacheslav Volodin thanked Choe Ryong-hae for holding the meeting in a warm and friendly atmosphere and invited him and his Korean colleagues to pay an official visit to Russia.

The visit's programme includes a number of meetings and participation in the ceremonial events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
