The Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Rahul Suresh Narwekar also attended the meeting.
The Chairman of the State Duma said that one of the purposes of the visit of the State Duma delegation to India was to learn more about the development of one of the leading states of the country. “It is important for us to study issues of humanitarian cooperation at the interregional level, because strong regions are parts of a strong country,” he emphasized.
“We have a lot in common: as countries with a federal structure, we can exchange practices, approaches, and solutions in terms of regional development,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
“We are glad to welcome such a high-level delegation in Mumbai. Maharashtra is one of the key regions of India, it is a leading state in many sectors of the economy, and you are right when you say that strong regions are parts of a strong country,” Chandrapuram Radhakrishnan said.
He emphasized that Russia and India have long-standing friendly ties: relations are also actively developing, including within the BRICS framework.
The Chairman of the State Duma drew attention to the need to exchange experience not only in industrial and economic areas, but also in science and education.
The Governor of the state noted the interest of Indian students in studying the Russian language: there is one of the leading relevant departments at the University of Mumbai, but, in his opinion, the number of universities to study Russian language should be increased.
“Relations are on an upward trajectory. Some students would like to be politicians, work as executive authorities, and interact with Russia. Knowledge of the language would be their advantage,” he added.
Maharashtra is the second most populous and the third largest state in the country. Its capital is Mumbai (Bombay), the financial center of India. The state has six large industrial parks related to the IT industry.
