held negotiations with
the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha of the Parliament, Vice President of the Republic Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The Vice President greeted the Chairman of the State Duma, emphasizing that it was a great honor for the Rajya Sabha to welcome the Russian delegation. He also noted the current level of deep mutual understanding between Russia and India.
“We have special relations. They are developing on the principles of friendship, non-interference in the affairs of sovereign states and mutually beneficial cooperation,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted a great contribution of the leaders of the countries to the development of the dialogue between Russia and India.
“For our part, we should provide all the necessary legislative support to implement the decisions taken by the President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Despite the many kilometers that divide us, our relations are growing stronger, and we should try to reach the same level of cooperation in our work that exist at the executive level. It is important to develop cooperation within the parliamentary dimension so that we can make our own contribution to the development of relations,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
India is one of the key counterparts of the Russian Federation in Asia. “Over the past five years, bilateral trade has increased fivefold and continues to grow: from January to November 2024, it increased by 15%. This will bring only benefits to our citizens and our countries,” the Chairman of the State Duma said.
Jagdeep Dhankhar noted the high level of Russia-India relations, as well as the significant role of parliamentarians in the process of maintaining them.
He recalled that over the past seven months, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi paid two visits to Russia. “These two visits reflect the importance of our strategic partnership,” he said.
“Our relations are beginning new trajectories, the level of cooperation is strengthening. Both our countries coordinate their positions on platforms such as the UN, BRICS, G20, SCO, to address global issues together,” added the Vice President of India.
The Chairman of the State Duma congratulated his colleagues and the people of India on the national holiday, Republic Day, and invited members of the Rajya Sabha of the Parliament of India to visit Russia.
The Chairman of the State Duma is paying an official visit to the Republic of India at the invitation of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India Om Birla. It is planned that Vyacheslav Volodin will hold
several meetings with the leadership of the Republic. Issues of cooperation
between Russia and India in economic, socio-cultural, educational and technological
areas, as well as further development of inter-parliamentary dialogue will be
discussed during the visit.
