held a meeting with the Deputy
Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign
Investment Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted the ongoing development of Russia-Cuba relations in all directions and creation of new formats of cooperation. He recalled that at the inter-parliamentary level, there was created the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba, its first meeting was held in 2023 in Havana.
“Within the parliamentary dimension, we should do everything so that the people of our countries could see concrete results of our work,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
Vyacheslav Volodin recalled the level of contribution of the heads of states to the development of relations. “Our presidents Vladimir Putin and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez are doing everything to make our cooperation more strategic and friendly and be based on the principles of trust and mutual respect,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
“For our part, we should provide legislative support to the decisions made at the highest level,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
“Relationship with Cuba is not just very important for us, it is relationship between two friendly countries, and it is distinguished because it has been tested by time and challenges,” he added.
Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz expressed gratitude to the State Duma for the continued support providing to Cuba.
“You always take a very constructive, supportive position. We would like to note the efforts of the State Duma aimed at condemning the policy of economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. This is very important for Cuba,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic.
The Chairman of the State Duma and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba condemned the sanctions policy pursued by the United States and its satellites both against Russia and Cuba. At the same time, Vyacheslav Volodin said that sanctions had only made our countries stronger: “Going through these challenges, we began to work differently: decisions are made more effectively, because we understand that we have no right to make mistakes.”
Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz also conveyed congratulations and noted the high level of organization and democratic voting in the elections of the President of the Russian Federation. “It does not matter what the West says. Our systems have proved that they are much more democratic than the US system,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba.
