Chairman of the State Duma: if Assange’s revelations had been about Russia or China, and not the US, he would have been called “a fighter for truth and freedom”

The situation with that man is an example of meanness, lies and double standards used by Washington, London and Brussels, according to Vyacheslav Volodin

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
recalled in his Telegram channel that Assange had revealed facts of the killings of civilians by American soldiers in Iraq and published documents proving the US involvement in coups d'etat and war mongering, told the world about tortures in the American Guantanamo Bay prison, as well as that the US National Security Agency was monitoring the telephone conversations of European politicians, including Merkel and Sarkozy.

“If Assange’s revelations had been about Russia or China, and not the United States, he would have been called “a fighter for truth and freedom.” But he exposed Washington's crimes. And the world hegemon does not tolerate that, destroying all those who disagree,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma noted that for more than 12 years, Assange had been living in conditions of unfreedom and torture: first in the building of the Embassy of Ecuador in Britain, and then in the dungeons of a maximum-security prison.

“Just think about it: a man has been kept behind four walls for 12 years without proven guilt. This is nothing than lawlessness. During all this time, his health has deteriorated sharply: after suffering a mini-stroke, Assange is not able to defend himself even via video-conference,” he added.

“Despite this, Biden is doing everything to extradite the WikiLeaks founder to the United States, where he could face up to 175 years in prison. He wants to kill him in front of the whole world,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma also recalled that in 2016, the UN recognized Assange’s imprisonment as illegal. “His extradition would be a blatant violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, including the right to freedom of speech,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.

“If Assange is deported to the United States, the countries supporting that will no longer be legal states,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma.
