held a meeting with the Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Saqr Ghobash at the State Duma. Vyacheslav Volodin and Saqr
Ghobash discussed issues of development of inter-parliamentary relations
between Russia and the UAE.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted the contribution to the development of cooperation between Russia and the UAE by the presidents — Vladimir Putin and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who laid a good foundation for bilateral cooperation.
“It is very important to develop cooperation within the framework of the parliamentary dimension. Therefore, we consider today's meeting as an opportunity not only to strengthen relations, but also [to] give them an impetus within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has not yet been used effectively enough,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma. “We should find new forms and approaches that will allow us to solve the problems that our countries face, so that the parliamentary dimension will deal with those issues,” he added.
To develop the inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries, Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to prepare an agreement on cooperation between the State Duma and the Federal National Council of the UAE, as well as to intensify contacts at the level of relevant parliamentary committees. Saqr Ghobash supported the proposal.
The Speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE also noted Russia’s very good relations with many Arab countries, and added that the dialogue between the Russian Federation and the UAE “is special”. He thanked Russia for its support at various international organizations. Saqr Ghobash also conveyed greetings to Vladimir Putin from the UAE President.
Mutually beneficial cooperation
The Chairman of the State Duma noted the importance for the parliamentarians of the two countries to implement the agreements reached by the heads of states and legislative decisions.
“Our countries have achieved impressive results: the trade between the Russian Federation and the UAE has grown by 71% over the past year,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. “According to the results of the first quarter, the trade turnover between the Russian Federation and the UAE amounted to more than 3 billion USD,” he added.
“Investment cooperation is expanding: the volume of mutual investments has exceeded 3.2 billion USD. And I should say that there is such cooperation in various fields,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
“We need to strengthen and maintain interregional ties,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. “Relations between the UAE and the Chechen Republic are actively developing. It is important to note the contribution of the head of the Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, who built these relations based on the principles of mutual respect and creating good conditions for business development,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
The cooperation in the field of tourism is developing: the Chairman of the State Duma recalled that over the past year about 1 million Russian tourists visited the UAE. According to Saqr Ghobash, the United Arab Emirates welcome tourists from Russia and hope that the number of tourists will increase.
“Last year's results speak for themselves. That would be great if we can not only maintain this good foundation and achieved results, but also improve them in the future,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
Saqr Ghobash invited the Chairman of the State Duma to pay an official visit to the UAE. Vyacheslav Volodin thanked for the invitation. The Chairman of the State Duma also invited the Speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE to pay an official visit to Russia and to come there on holiday: “Our citizens go to your country on holiday. I invite you to our country and spent holiday in Russia”.
