“Our previous meeting was held on February 9, 2022, and it was recommended to continue the practice of holding such working meetings,” recalled Leonid Kalashnikov.
The meeting participants exchanged information on the military-political situation in the regions of the CSTO area of responsibility.
The Chairman of the Committee said that the meeting participants made a decision to appeal to organizations and states regarding the non-use of space weapons. According to him, outer space is already being used in conflicts by countries, for example, satellites can be used for navigation and communication purposes. That means that the issue of using space weapons should be discussed, according to the parliamentarian.
“Of course, there is a threat of using space weapons, especially from space-faring countries that can obtain such weapons. We also made a decision to call on organizations, especially space ones, on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly to discuss this issue and appeal to the space-faring countries not to use these weapons and not to send them into space,” said Leonid Kalashnikov.
A representative of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization took part in the meeting via videoconference.
The first meeting was held on February 9, 2022. The meeting participants noted the intensification of activities of US nuclear forces near the borders of the CSTO member states, the high conflict potential on Armenia-Azerbaijan line of contact, and the terrorist threat on the border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
