“Relations between Russia and Iran are developing dynamically,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. “An example of good development of relations and efforts for mutual understanding is set by the presidents of our countries,” he added.

“For our part, we should do everything to provide legislative support to the decisions reached at the highest level. And, of course, we should contribute to the development of relations within the parliamentary dimension,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.

He expressed confidence that the work of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran would help the parliamentarians of the two countries not only to understand each other better, but also to be aimed to achieve better final results. Vyacheslav Volodin also called for making the activities of the Commission more substantive to address those issues “that our citizens expect us to solve.”

Vyacheslav Volodin recalled that the meetings of the Commission were held alternately in Russia and Iran. “We are looking forward to seeing you in Moscow,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.

“It is very important for us to look for new formats of cooperation, to deepen interaction within the framework of parliamentary communications,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. He invited Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to take part in the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments on Countering Terrorism and Strengthening Regional Connectivity, which is planned to be held in April. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accepted the invitation and confirmed participation.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Iran noted the high level of cooperation between the two countries. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed hope that the third meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Parliament of Iran “will strengthen our ties and inter-parliamentary cooperation in other areas, including political, economic and other areas.”

“I very much hope that we will be able to give effect to the will of our leaders in bilateral, multilateral cooperation and in the implementation of our strategic interaction,” emphasized Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

On January 22–23, the delegation of the State Duma is paying an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The third meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Parliament of Iran is planned to be held on January 23. The parliamentarians plan to discuss issues of legislative support for trade and economic cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and agriculture, issues of cooperation in the Caspian Sea, regional security, countering terrorism and extremism.
