Chairman of the State Duma mentioned that at his speech at the 8th BRICS Parliamentary Forum
“The world is tired of Washington and Brussels’s double standards, of the creation of unequal,
unfavorable conditions for cooperation in all areas, including, economy,
advanced technologies and security,” said Vyacheslav Volodin

He recalled that “by imposing illegal sanctions, Washington and its satellites have discredited the economic model that they imposed on other states, on the whole world.”
“Restrictions against Russia not only boomeranged on the United States of America and the European Union, but also created threats of a food and energy crisis. They are doing that only to maintain American hegemony at any cost,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
He added that Washington tried to single-handedly decide that way who and what should do and did not take into account the interests of other countries. The Chairman of the State Duma mentioned “the recent provocative visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan and attempts to exclude Russia from international organizations.”
“We condemn such approaches and believe that such things only destroy peace and stability that has been achieved for decades,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He thanked the BRICS partners for consistent support of “multilateral international cooperation as the only possible way to address global problems.”
The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Li Zhanshu thanked Vyacheslav Volodin for his position on Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
“You condemned Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. You reaffirmed Russia's clear position on upholding the [One] China principle. We highly appreciate your statement,” he said.
The main topic of the Forum, which was held via videoconference, was the role of legislative bodies in the development of high-quality partnership
within the framework of BRICS.

The 1st BRICS Parliamentary Forum was held on 8 June 2015 in Moscow, as it was the year of Russia’s chairmanship in the association. 2022 is the year of China’s chairmanship in BRICS.
