On Wednesday, February 9, chairmen of the committees and commissions of the parliaments of the CSTO member states held a meeting at the State Duma.
Following the meeting, Leonid Kalashnikov
Kalashnikov
Leonid Ivanovich
said that the parliamentarians discussed legislative
issues. Leonid Kalashnikov recalled that the parliaments of some states, like Kyrgyzstan
and Tajikistan, should adopt a relevant decision, if there was a need for the deployment of CSTO troops, while the harmonization of legislation in this area
would help to act more rapidly in the future.
He added that the parliamentarians also discussed the status of troops: whether the military personnel taking part in the military operations should be considered participants in hostilities.
“We need to amend the national legislation for that. We shared our opinions on legislation, what should be done, developed, and improved. We agreed on that,” said Leonid Kalashnikov.
He is convinced that “the recent operation in Kazakhstan should become an example of the logic of actions.”
The Chairman of the Committee added that the security issues in the CSTO member states were also discussed at the meeting. According to him, the parliamentarians discussed measures that should be taken in this area.
