Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi spoke about development of relations between Iran and Russia, fight against terrorism and NATO’s expansion
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi addressed members of the State Duma at the plenary meeting.

held a bilateral meeting with Seyyed
Ebrahim Rais before the plenary meeting.
The President of Iran in his speech at the plenary meeting thanked for the warm welcome in Moscow and wished the Russian citizens happy New Year and merry Christmas. He stressed that the people of Iran and the Islamic states attached great importance to Jesus Christ and respected religious values. “According to our canonical teachings, we believe that there is a common most important message in all Abrahamic religions. This is the spiritual development of mankind,” said Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
In his speech, he also mentioned development of relations between Iran and Russia.
“Fortunately, now there are very good, clear prospects for development of our bilateral relations at the interregional and international levels. Strengthening Iran-Russia cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats will help to develop economies of our countries, as well as to enhance peace and security in the region,” said the President of Iran.
He stressed that the Islamic Republic favoured maximum interaction with all world countries.
“The purpose of the interaction is to fulfill the common interests of people, as well as to create a global civilized society. Such cooperation is possible only through implementation and commitment to justice, morality and spirituality,” said Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
According to him, the root causes of violence, terrorism, the breakdown of the institution of the family and drug trafficking in the world “stem from the gap between politics and morality and spirituality”.
Countering terrorism and NATO expansion
The President of Iran stressed that the successful joint efforts of Russia and Iran in the fight against the terrorists in Syria would help to enhance security in the region.
“I would like to thank the Russian Federation for cooperation under the wise guidance of the President of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Putin. This could be an effective example for development of our relations in various areas,” said Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
The President of Iran added the war against terrorism was only part of the fight against domination and expansion.
“We see that the strategy of domination has failed and the US is in its weakest position. The independent states are strengthening. We are going through a historical period of development,” said Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
He stressed that Western countries would continue to pursue an expansionary policy. According to him, they try to weaken independent states by introducing economic sanctions and destabilizing the internal situation.
“NATO penetrates into different countries using various pretexts and covers. NATO’s agenda includes imposition of the Western model and opposition to independent democracies, rejection of identity of the nations, culture and traditions,” the President of Iran said.
In this regard, Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi noted readiness to enhance cooperation with the Russian Federation on a solid basis to ensure bilateral interests and prevent the penetration of third sides into the affairs of the two countries. He added that the fundamental agreements had been reached between Iran and Russia, which would facilitate trade development.
