Vyacheslav Victorovich
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
wrote in his Telegram channel that the 20-year presence
of the US troops in Afghanistan had led to “tragedy and a humanitarian disaster”.
“The number of drug laboratories has increased hundreds of times, the population has become impoverished and more than 250 thousand civilians died after NATO military operations and were killed by terrorists. Now we are witnessing a horrible situation. What happens next? We can only guess,” wrote Viacheslav Volodin.
He stressed that such situation definitely caused concern to Russia, as Afghanistan shares borders with countries which are Russia’s strategic partners.
“Despite the current situation, there are no statements by the US State Department on what kind of assistance will be provided to Afghanistan and neighboring states. There are no statements by the OSCE PA, PACE and the European Parliament on violations of human rights and the need to support those who are in a difficult situation. Apparently, there will not be such statements. As there were no statements on the situations in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Yugoslavia. That list of states could be even longer,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
He added that it was hard to mention a country which had benefited from the US expansion, invasion of the territory under various pretexts and imposition of foreign standards.
“Today we see the evidence of failure of the US foreign policy. At the same time, the authorities of the United States and a number of European countries spend more and more money to promote democracy in other states. Put simply, they try to overthrow the regimes and support politicians loyal to them, creating tension and conflicts. It would be right to direct the money to the purpose to help people of Afghanistan and citizens of neighboring states, who were really affected by the US activities,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
