“We continue our monitoring activities
and we could not ignore the recent statements by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell,” said Chairman
of the Commission on the Investigation of Foreign Interference in Russia's
Internal Affairs Vasilii Piskarev

The parliamentarian stressed that “the recent remarks of Josep Borrell that he had mentioned in his speech at the European Parliament are blatant interference in Russia’s internal affairs, in particular, in the activities of Russian supervisory and judicial authorities. On April 28, he expressed “concern” about the fact that Moscow Prosecutor’s Office had filed a lawsuit filed to qualify organisations affiliated with Alexei Navalny as extremist, and the day before Mr. Borrell called the suspension of their activities “crackdown on fundamental rights.”
“We consider remarks of the EU senior official as undisguised pressure on the Prosecutor’s Office and judicial authorities during the ongoing court proceedings and that is unacceptable. It is significant that Mr. Borrell also mentioned the September elections to the State Duma, as he wanted to make it clear which forces would receive the support from the Western states during the upcoming election campaign in Russia,” stressed Vasilii Piskarev.
The Chairman of the Commission recalled that “those organisations affiliated with Alexei Navalny called on minors to participate in illegal protest actions in Russian cities in January-February 2021”.
“The Commission will continue to review the facts of foreign interference in our internal affairs. Russia is open to dialogue and cooperation, but the unfriendly actions against our country will not be tolerated,” stressed Vasilii Piskarev.
