Russian and Libyan parliamentarians discussed the current situation in the North African state, as well as issues of Russia-Libya inter-parliamentary cooperation.

always considered Libya as one of our important counterparts in North Africa,” said

He expressed hope that the domestic political situation in Libya would allow to develop bilateral parliamentary cooperation more actively.
He recalled the agreement on cooperation between the State Duma and the House of Representatives of Libya, which provided, in particular, for the establishment of a permanent parliamentary commission.
“The agreement also noted the important role of the legislative bodies in promoting development of multifaceted cooperation, including, in the political, trade and economic, energy, transport, scientific and educational, cultural areas. We are convinced that as the situation in Libya is stabilizing and the process of national reconciliation is developing, the provisions of the agreement on parliamentary support for the development of Russia-Libya cooperation in various areas will be implemented,“ said Aleksandr Zhukov.
“We maintain balanced contacts with all Libyan parties, and are ready to provide assistance in finding mutually acceptable solutions, if they need our good efforts,” he stressed.
Aguila Saleh acknowledged Russia’s support in combating terrorism and in continuing the dialogue. ”Your country supports peace initiatives in Libya,“ he said.
“I appreciate these efforts made by the Russian Federation. Those efforts helped us to take certain important steps, first of all, in achieving a ceasefire,” said Aguila Saleh.
He also expressed hope that the Russian Federation would play an important, pivotal role in the implementation of projects for post-conflict reconstruction and development of Libya. “I mean investment, energy, industrial, agricultural, transport and technological projects,” stressed Aguila Saleh.
“We will try to use the experience, potential and capabilities of the Russian Federation to develop our country and that would made lives of citizens of Libya better, in the interests of our states and people. We remain loyal to those who did not turn away,” he said.

held a meeting with President of House of Representatives of Libya Aguila Saleh. Speakers signed the Agreement on Cooperation and also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including, issues
of combating terrorism and enhancing security, as well as prospects for the Russia-Libya inter-parliamentary dialogue. The parties also discussed the settlement of the political crisis in Libya.
