stressed that the main message of the meeting was “to keep and enhance
our good cooperation with Germany”. “The dialogue was positive, everyone had a working mood,” he added.
“Everyone is interested in keeping the framework of the cooperation between Russia and Germany, to make it more strict, firm, and substantive,” Vasilii Piskarev said.
The meeting participants
also agreed to enhance cooperation on various issues, including the exchange of current experience to counter the coronavirus pandemic. Vasilii Piskarev said
that the members of the Bundestag had already met with the Chairman of the State

and with representatives of the Committee on Energy.
They also discussed issues of countering extremism, drug crimes, cross-border crime and terrorism. “We have a lot of points of convergence. It is important to resume and strengthen our contacts, our cooperation. I think we will not limit ourselves only to these issues and we will find new ways to overcome all kinds of provocations that sometimes appear,” said Vasilii Piskarev.
“We will ask the German government to cooperate more closely and openly with our law enforcement agencies,” the parliamentarian added. The joint statement will be prepared after the meeting.
The dialogue should not stop
Chairman of the German-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Group of the German Bundestag Robby Schlund also noted the need to continue and develop the dialogue.
“Dialogue is the only thing that matters at the international level. The dialogue should never be stopped,” he stressed.
“I think it is a good idea to create a mechanism to prevent conflicts. This is not just a confidence-building measure, it is a special mechanism that should be used when problems appear between our countries. And I, together with my colleagues, will do everything possible to create it,” said Robby Schlund.
“I wish the citizens of Russia understood that the German people are not interested in sanctions. The German people have never been and will never be an enemy of the Russian people,” said member of the Bundestag Waldemar Herdt.
“There are parliamentarians in Germany who are interested in our cooperation and development. The European continent has no future without Russia-Germany cooperation,” he is convinced.
