said that this country has been
one of Russia's key partners in Africa for more than 120 years.
“Participation in the Conference “Russia-Africa” is another opportunity to discuss many issues, compare positions, develop solutions and give impetus to further cooperation,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
“As you rightly said, our countries have a long-standing relationship. We are very grateful for the assistance that Russia traditionally provides to Ethiopia,” said Tagesse Chaffo.
“We are united not only by political and diplomatic relations, but also by cultural ties. We are united by our common past — the great poet Alexander Pushkin. I always cross Pushkin Square on my way to work,” he added.
New stage of development of cooperation between Russia and Africa
“The Conference “Russia-Africa” will open a new stage in the development of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the continent,” said the Chairman of the State Duma at the bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zimbabwe Jacob Mudenda.
“Our countries together support the principles of a multipolar world order, compliance with international law, sovereignty, equality and non-interference in the affairs of other states,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
Jacob Mudenda agreed that the upcoming Conference will “create the basis for our future work so that our words will turn into concrete actions.”
“I hope that after the Conference“ Russia-Africa ”(within the framework of the Second International Forum“ Development of Parliamentarism ”- editor’s note.), our countries will be able to sign a substantial package of documents aimed at developing both political and economic relations”, stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
He also thanked Russia for the continued support of his country, noting that Russia and Zimbabwe have long-standing bilateral ties. Jacob Mudenda invited Viacheslav Volodin to visit the Republic.
Earlier the Chairman of the State Duma on the margins of the Forum held bilateral meetings with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Şentop , Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ali Abdel Aal, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asad Qaiser, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Habib El Malki, , Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zambia Patrick Matibini, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of the Congo Isidore Mvouba and with President of the Chamber of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Cecilia Bottino and President of the Parliament of MERCOSUR Daniel Caggiani.
The Second International Forum ”Development of Parliamentarism“ is being held on July 1–3 on the initiative of the State Duma. This year, representatives from 132 states came to the Forum. About 800 experts and parliamentarians, including 14 international parliamentary organizations, are taking part in the events. 41 speakers representing the national parliaments are participating in the Forum. This is twice the number of the Forum 2018: 19 speakers of parliaments took part in the Forum last year.
