The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
supported Sumitra Mahajan’s proposal to hold a conference of experts, who provide assistance to the parliamentarians and parliament’s offices, in India.
“I would like this conference to take place alternately in Russia and India,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. He believes that this initiative will help in the preparation of joint decisions.
Viacheslav Volodin also proposed holding a conference of young legislators of Russia and India, including those representing regional parliaments. The Chairman of the State Duma believes that the committees of the parliaments of the two countries dealing with youth affairs could be co-organizers of such conference.
“Attracting young legislators from the regions could be a step forward to widen the formats [of our cooperation] and give our relations a new impetus,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sumitra Mahajan congratulated Viacheslav Volodin on the 25th anniversary of the Russian parliament, and also thanked for the warm welcome during her last visit to Russia and asked to convey her greetings to Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
“Our inter-parliamentary relations received a new impetus after you visited Russia,” said Viacheslav Volodin. He noted that relations between the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of India helped relations between countries to reach such a high level.
“It is necessary to legally ensure the agreements reached [between them],” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
“The development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue is extremely important to us,” he said and reminded that the fifth meeting of the Russian-Indian inter-parliamentary commission is taking place today. Last year, it met for the fourth time in 20 years since its establishment. “We should agree to make these meetings annual and organize them alternately in Russia and India,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
He called for the creation of the necessary conditions for the flow of tourists between Russia and India to increase. Last year it grew by 30%, but this is not the limit.
“In this regard, we should intensify the interaction of the specialized committees,” the Chairman of the State Duma believes. He also called for joint legislative work in the sphere of the digital economy, for example, in drafting basic laws in such areas as artificial intelligence and robotics.
“It’s good that we have already found understanding and worked in this direction,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
Before the meeting, the Chairman of the State Duma examined the hall of the joint sittings of the Council of States and the House of People of the Parliament of India and left an entry in the book of honorable guests.
“Russian-Indian cooperation is actively developing. It is important to continue the inter-parliamentary dialogue for the benefit of the peoples of our countries,” he wrote.
